Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 October 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using tracethoughts ("the service", "we", "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. What tracethoughts does
tracethoughts lets you create a map with its own address (for example yourname.tracethoughts.com), place pins with links, text and notes on it, and invite other people in. People on a map appear as avatars, can talk to others standing near them in a chat, and can record and replay walk-throughs of the pins. A map is either public (anyone can look and join) or private (the owner approves each person).
3. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old. Give accurate details, keep your password safe, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. One person should not run many accounts to get around limits or bans.
4. Your content
Everything you add (maps, pins, links, notes, chat messages, walk-throughs, display name and avatar) stays yours. You give us permission to store it, process it and show it to the people it is meant for, only so that we can run the service. You promise that you have the right to add it and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights.
On a public map, pins, notes, walk-throughs, who is online and where they are standing, and visit trails are visible to anyone who opens the map. On a private map they are visible only to approved members. Chat messages are visible only to the people in that chat. See the Privacy Policy for details.
5. Map owners
If you own a map, you decide who may join, who may add notes and pins, and you may approve, decline, remove or block people. You are responsible for what is on your map and for acting on anything harmful that you become aware of. Deleting a map deletes its pins, notes, walk-throughs and member list permanently, and the address becomes available to others.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use tracethoughts to:
- post anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or that exposes other people's private information;
- spam, scam or impersonate people or organisations;
- upload or link to malware, or try to break, probe or overload the service or other people's accounts;
- misuse the link-preview feature to make our servers contact addresses you do not own, or to scrape other sites;
- collect other users' information without their permission;
- use addresses that imitate a brand, a public figure or another person to mislead.
We may remove content, hide a map from the public directory, or suspend an account that breaks these rules. Some addresses are reserved and cannot be claimed.
7. Chat and other people
Chat opens automatically between people who are standing near each other on a map, and messages can be edited, reacted to and deleted. Be considerate: other people can see what you write, and "delete for everyone" does not undo anything someone already read, copied or screenshotted. Use Do not disturb if you do not want to join chats. Report abuse to us at admin@tracethoughts.com.
8. Links, previews and third-party sites
Pins can point to other websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for them. To show a preview we may fetch the page you linked to and keep its title and image address. Preview images are loaded from the original site.
9. Availability and changes
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change, limit or discontinue features. Limits apply, for example on the number of maps per person, pins per map and messages kept per chat. Please keep your own copy of anything important.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your own maps and content. To have your account deleted, contact us. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind and are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, lost data or lost profits arising from your use of the service, or for what other users post. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service develops. The current version is always at this address, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
